Duke is not Harvard but it's not that different. You need something that the admission officer looking though the stack, exhausted at 1 AM, remembers you.
I can't say anything about your chances because you've said very little but I don't believe purely having high scores will get you anywhere in the top 20.
You say that you don't have a whole lot of leadership type roles, and that's definitely not good.
Elite colleges love students with leadership roles and especially prolonged commitment to certain activities, and just trying to change that for your senior year isn't going to help all that much.
Duke is VERY competitive so even with your grades, there's a good chance that Duke could reject you.
It's a stretch but I wouldn't say it's impossible.He or she then chooses the one's she likes and then advocates for them in the admissions meetings and the officials vote.This is why everybody says that you have to be unique.They offer a few scholarships to cover all tuition and board costs, but I'm not sure if I'm way behind the pack for these or if I actually have a chance to get one.I should be graduating next year with a GPA of 4.31 and valedictorian.I am truly in awe of you young people that are able to accomplish such great things so early in life.It doesn't matter which school you end up going to, I'm sure you will accomplish great things.I hate to say it, but based on what you've said, even getting into Duke alone isn't guranteed, much less a full ride scholarship.According to this source, Duke only admitted 29% of high-school valedictorians that applied one year and not having leadership roles earlier in your high school career definitely will set you behind the pack.If you can't get into Duke, NC has some other really nice colleges you should look at.Davidson and Wake Forest are very holistic so those leadership roles will come in handy if you want to get a free ride.
